Manolos for the Mindful

Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic.

Can a shoe made with sustainability in mind be sexy enough to inspire true lust? I’d have said no until I saw these handmade shoes by Hetty Rose. They’re made with vintage kimono fabrics, “relics of a disappearing world, saturated in significance and hidden meanings.” Designer Henrietta Rose Samuels studied at the London College of Fashion, and her shoes, based on her theory of reworking fabrics in a creative and sustainable way, have been seen in the pages of Italian Vogue, InStyle, and Elle UK.

Call them Manolos for the mindful, shoes for the conscious, or simply beautiful artisan treats for your feet. Since Hetty Rose shoes are made to order, plan on 5 to 8 weeks for delivery in your vintage kimono fabric of choice. I’d pair low-heeled Lula with a black dress or white jeans all summer long, or go dancing in Mika 2.

What exquisite shoes, and all the more special because they are handmade with vintage fabric! For years, while I worked in the fashion industry, I watched trends come and go; industrialization and our expectations have made clothing and accessories so disposable. It’s wonderful to see more and more handcrafted treasures that we are more likely to keep until they are truly worn. We love them for their beauty and the care that was taken to make them, rather than their brief expression of a fashion trend. These Hetty Rose shoes are such an inspiration for those of us who would like to be unique in our style, and conservative in the way we use resources.

Lovely shoes! I love the idea of covering with vintage kimono fabrics.
