Artful Adornment from Ananda Khalsa

There’s a long tradition of jewelry made from exquisite miniature paintings, but the technique is contemporary, fresh and beautiful in the hands of designer Ananda Khalsa. Her tiny, perfect paintings are protected with fine glass set in gold or silver, with accents of semi-precious gemstones.

Khalsa chooses subjects inspired by nature and rich with symbolism, from the lotus blossom, for purity and enlightenment, to the joyful persimmon, which Khalsa says is considered a “blessing plant” in Chinese lore.

Prices start at about $140. The Ravens pendant, just 1 x 1.5 inches, represents knowledge and wisdom; accented with garnets, it’s $680 in 22K gold and $310 in silver. For courage and strength, the Koi Fish brooch  is $200 in sterling silver with gold dots. The Willow bracelet, pendant or ring, for feminine energy and loving kindness, might be the perfect artisan gift for Mother’s Day. Order directly from the site or a number of retail locations.
