This Is Garbage
Through waste management and recycling, the resourceful artisans of Conserve work in the interest of both their city and the environment. Once they clear the excess of plastic litter from the streets of New Delhi, these eco-friendly artists transform the non-biodegradable material they collect into pouches like the This Is Garbage purse above, slings, totes and more.
Plus, they utilize an environmentally sound method that eliminates the use of toxic dyes. After cleaning the plastic, they sort it by color and utilize an amalgamation method that melts similar hues together to create a more durable fabric. This way, they can craft multi-hued items that are chemical-free. In an effort towards social responsibility, this nonprofit organization also provides employment for those most in need.

What a great idea! You know, because of India’s extreme poverty, I’ve heard of a lot of “green” ideas, purely out of necessity. For example, I’ve heard there are people on the street who will take your Bic lighter and refill it for a few rupees. Now, Bic lighters are supposedly not refillable, but these guys have figured out how to do it and made a small business out of it…purely out of economic necessity.
