I wear many hats. One is a freelance rep for a handful of eco-designers. Last weekend I was more than thrilled to work at New York’s D&A show (Designers and Agents), an alternative designer marketplace with thousands of designers. At shows, retailers create relationships and place orders with designers for their respective venues.

I’m happy to report that boutiques from all over the U.S. were placing large orders and I’m very hopeful about fall 09 – designers were really on their toes concerning their designs. The recession has been good for making all of us pay more attention to detail.

I’m also happy to say how proud I was of the show for having so many eco-products available, from the ecotainer coffee cups I drank from in the morning, to the greenware corn cups for orange juice and the cornstarch flatware with which I was so hungrily eating I nearly ate them as well.

Recycling was strategically placed and used properly as I noted from lifting the lids to see if people were reading the signs. Designers whose lines were at least 25% eco-friendly were given the green leaf icon and plaque designating them as a green designer.

Kudos to D&A co-founders Barbara Kramer and Ed Mandelbaum for making it all happen and for their ongoing efforts to make the D&A show a viable marketplace for green designers.

It’s great that you are right in the loop of what’s happening. It gives you more feeling to be able to touch and see your world of design and fashion.
