Eco-Refresh with Upholstery Nailheads

furniture collage
Have you ever looked around your home and spotted a piece of furniture and wanted to scream, “I’m tired and so over it!”?

Said piece of furniture is desperately in need of what I like to call the Eco-Refresh. Rather than donate or recycle and buy a new piece, why not refresh it with some stylish upholstery nailheads? It’s easy and inexpensive and it kept me out of trouble this past weekend.

I noticed this idea on a few other sites, such as my fave HGTV (shown above) and our friends over at Dose of Design. Try it on a side table, chair, stool, bench, even a headboard. There are an infinite number of design options - simple or ornate, stylized or natural.

Before you start, have a clear vision of what you want. It helps to make a simple sketch of your plan. Also, start small - it’s easier to add more than undo. I found a plethora of beautiful nailheads at Furniture Restoration Tools and Supplies. They also sell a lightweight tack hammer - get the one with a nylon tip to avoid damage to the furniture…or your fingers.

And lastly, have fun. Refresh is a great way to go green, right along with recycle, reduce and reuse.
