Hudson Furniture's Contemporary Heirlooms

Hudson Furniture is an eco lover's dream (we can't get enough). The company sculpts stunning contemporary furniture like this Plexi Coffee Table, a  slab of organic walnut fused with a clean plexiglass base.

Founder Barlas Baglar works with embassies and consulates to legally export the wood worldwide. The harvested species include claro walnut, black walnut, myrtle, jasmine, acacia, satinwood and ebonized pine. "We put a high regard and value on these trees by turning them into pieces of enduing art instead of leaving them out to decay," says Baglar.

The line is a virtual forest of benches, petrified wood end tables, dining tables and even massive headboards ( and I mean boards!), all intrinsically rooted in nature and appealing to the sophisticated wood craftsman sensibility.

While the sleeker upholstered pieces would easily be at home in the Upper East Side townhome, I think the thick nesting tables and petrified wood occasional tables are perfect for the Incline Village or Aspen A-frame. Clearly, Hudson is marketing to upscale consumers who are passionate about salvaging trees and purchasing furnishings that will last for generations.

Check out the catalog, including new collections by Mario Botta, Terry Dwan and Tenzo Piano, at Hudson Furniture. Price upon request.
