Tiny Showcase: Small on Price, Big on Giving

If I had a trust fund or won the lottery, I’d quit my job, travel...and collect art. My real-life options may be more limited, but I still find beautiful art at Tiny Showcase, an online community for artists created by Jon Buonaccorsi and Shea’la Finch.

Tiny Showcase helps to expose and sell smaller works. Each unique piece is turned into a limited-run print production for people who want to add something beautiful to their space without spending an arm and a leg.

One print is introduced each week and available until the limited run (usually 50 or 100) is sold out. Last fall I couldn't resist picking up my favorites, “Silvercup”, by Kim Beury, and “Gluttony”, by Julie Morstad.

I’ve been perusing Tiny Showcase since 2005, when they began taking a small percentage of the proceeds for each print and donating it to the charity of that artist’s choice. This spring they’ve taken it a step further, and greener.

With the release of their Spring Print Collection 2008, Tiny Showcase is printing everything on natural bamboo paper. And, in addition to their usual charitable contribution, the German printmaking company that provides the eco-friendly paper will give 10% of their own profits to the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC), whose ultimate purpose is to protect the earth.

Art is an investment in beauty that lasts - and what better way to enjoy it than with the knowledge that you've bought green art? ($30 and up.)
