Decorative Days and Sweet-Scented Nights
Pillow acquisitions are not always appreciated by the male of the species, but the aspiring designer in every woman knows how a simple switch of pillows can reinvent an entire room. I have dozens: standard sleeping pillows, square throw pillows, Euro sham-covered pillows, boudoir pillows, floor pillows, cushions, rests, stops. Pillows give us a quick, effortless and relatively inexpensive method of altering the atmosphere of any room instantly. I switch pillows as frequently as I switch flowers and handbags. Why not? For a dressy champagne party I stow my green silk in favor of the black and silver glitter, and for seasonal changes, such as from summer to fall, I put away the organic linen and cozy up with the chocolate velvet.
Recently, I found these numbers from Michaela Scherrer: the most beguiling, delicate, sweet-smelling (filled with lavender), unpretentious and eco-friendly (vintage French linen) pillows. This L.A. based designer fuses her Zen-like sensibilities with a genuine environmental consciousness. Still checking in looking for “Young Buddha” to reappear. It was a white Buddha head on a black marble base. I was told it might be available for 2007 Holidays but I never saw it. Any chance it will be available again??

I recently added pillows in different solid colours to highlight the tones in the rug in my otherwise neutral family room. It never occurred to me, until now, that I could evoke moods in different parts of the room using different scents. I would probably reserve these peaceful lavender scented pillows for my bedroom, but would love to find them in bolder colours and scents for other rooms.

I am in the process of re-stuffing some older pillows, as to re-use the fabric that I like, as opposed to buying all new ones. I might just have to add some lavender to the new stuffing!

That Root of the Earth Bowl will make a very pretty centerpiece on the cocktail table in my sitting room. It will surely highlight the room giving it a real sense of harmony with nature and advocacy to environment preservations!
