Eco-Friendly Cash Saver: Make Your Own Soda

The average American will consume an average of 43,371 cans of soda over an average of 77 years. That’s a lot of chemicals in your belly and a lot of waste in the landfill.
Keep this penguin on your countertop and you’ll be doing your part to reduce the carbon imprint from bottle transportation, reduce the number of cans that end up in landfills, and eliminate your intake of artificial sweeteners. The kit comes with everything you need to make your own soft drinks. You’ll also save some cash as the cost per liter starts at 18 cents compared to 42 cents per liter at the supermarket. Learn more at The Nibble and purchase here.

Healthy tip: Boost your antioxidant intake by adding juices like pomegranate and acacia, and if you’re a control freak, you can even regulate how fizzy your soda water will be.

My only question is: Where do you buy the quinine syurp stuff to make your own tonic water. Totally custom gin and tonic? Win.

Great tip, Susan. It’s about time that home-made fizzy drinks made a comeback (they were so big in the ’80s). Also – to the penguin I’d add a home smoothie maker, to avoid impulse-buying bottles of fruit juice in those moments of weakness at the office canteen (and really thick home-made smoothies retain the pulp in the drink, which is even healthier).
