Don't Let the Muumuus Get You Down

One of the hottest fashion trends this spring is the so-called tunic. Unfortunately, when I hear that word my eyes roll back in my head and all I can visualize is the floral muumuu my mom wore on our trip to Hawaii in 1973.

Despite that, I decided I wouldn’t sleep until I found at least one tunic stylish and eco-friendly enough for my fashion-forward EcoSalon readers. Was I ever pleasantly surprised. A tunic can be feminine, chic and body-conscious.

For the sleeveless lover in all of us, there’s this lightweight organic cotton and silk tunic by Song. It has a squared neckline, embroidered details along the bottom hem and is available in white at $204. Fresh, simple and perfect with a pair of jeans on a hot summer night.

For cooler evenings, try the ¾ ruffled sleeve Smocked Tunic by LAmixx in deep charcoal. Made of luxuriously soft organic cotton (and sold out in all sizes except small), the deep v-neck is subtle and sexy with ruffle detailing. Buy it at 80s Purple for $46 - what a steal.

Another feminine and form-fitting find, perfect for a casual weekend day, is the INA tunic by Under the Canopy, a Boca Raton-based company that “embrace[s] the planet with style”. Made of 100% organic cotton, the short sleeves will show off your yoga-sculpted arms, while the simple neckline and hoodie add a casual touch. Available in white, air (sky blue) and incense (black), you’ll find it at Under the Canopy for $48.

Last but not least, check out the Pieced Silk Tunic from Garnet Hill. I’m not personally a lover of busy prints, but I couldn’t resist the 100% silk charmeuse, the rich color palette and a certain je ne sais quoi. Available in petite and regular sizes for $118.

Shop now and avoid any muumuu nightmares of your own.
