I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing a dress several times. Another friend of mine has worn the same black dress a half dozen times to events. I insisted she wear one of mine to our school gala, just so she might enjoy wearing something different. But she really didn't care at all what people think. I aspire to be like that.

P.S. What would be so wrong about investing in a few really gorgeous dresses and wearing them repeatedly? There's a stigma against being seen in the same dress twice.

I agree. My girlfriends and I swap dresses for parties - $200-400 for a well made dress once a month is a ridiculous waste of money on a single gal's budget.

I'm all for it. It's time to take the stigma out of recycled clothes. Much of my clothes comes from clothing swaps, where women get together, throw a little party, and bring all their gently-used-but-no-longer-wanted clothes to swap. It's a superbly creative way to expand your wardrobe.

I know in some Hip Mama communities there are clothing exchanges for the little ones too. An excellent idea!

I remember when yard sales first came to be. Then there was the thrift stores. One time I wore this dress that was just lovely, purchased from a thirst store. My mom found this lovely dress for me at a thrift store 30 miles from home. I wore it to school. The brother of the girl who used to own it was in my class and make a big deal out of me buying used goods. I'm glad to see "we've come a long way baby."
