Is Green Just a Trend?

The less optimistic among us love to point out that “green” is a trend, and, like all trends, that it will fade with time. I proudly say that I’m not green because it’s trendy, but because it’s who I am. I strive for beauty and balance in my life, and that means respecting the people, plants and animals around me. I’ve raised my standards and have come to expect a world where everybody cares about the consequences of their actions.
More than just an accumulation of ecologically-sound actions, being green has to be who you are. It’s an intuitive thing; it means taking into account your neighbors, the trees in your yard, the birds nesting in that tree, and the bugs that sustain those birds. It means being aware of the big web that holds this world together, and then letting your actions come from that awareness. Everything is interconnected.
Respect, self-awareness and future-thinking are at the heart of being green. Nobody can do it all, but all of us can do our best. I don’t think green is a trend; I think we’re all finally waking up to ask the important question: how will my actions affect the seventh generation?

Hey,
It’s not “just” a trend, it’s a positive trend, imo although it’s a powerful business tool today, but it makes some people really care about themselves and it does make people sure that the way they behave affects the outside world aswell as their own.
Here’s an article I wrote about green trend, read if you are interested: http://www.yourgenuineidea.com.....een-trend/
Regards,
Alex

Green is meaningless. It’s just something we use to infer someone gives a f*ck. Is giving a f*ck just a trend? Is morality just a passing phase? Give me a break. That’s unthinkable. The people who say these things are in a world of their own.
The tide is rising.

I’ve always hated bumper stickers. I could always rely on a trip to Boulder and seeing all the Subaru’s parked around Pearl Street to make me gag.
As I’ve gotten older, one of those bumper stickers has made a lot of sense and now is sort of my daily mantra.
“Think locally, Act Globally,” maybe it’s the other way around..
The only way to make a change in who we are and how we act as humans on the planet is to start with ourselves. Make ourselves and our family healthy, be a role model for the neighbor, maybe work to increase awareness in our town about alternative energy, support the local organic farmer by going for the deluxe membership, embrace green affordable housing and increase our recycling.
In this way we green our world slowly, really make it our life and never utter the word trend because it never was….to us.
