Radical Prefab Eco Houses: Which Would You Choose?

WP Greet Box icon
Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic.

In the future, will all houses come ready to assemble?

Prefabricated housing couldn’t be more eco-fashionable, and it’s not hard to see why. Whether temporary or permanent, a flat-pack house can go pretty much anywhere (as long as you have water & electricity supplies – and permission!). And it’s increasingly affordable: the cheapest option on the market is a mere $12,000. Music to the ears of the adventurous first-time buyer.

But we’re talking about an often radically different style of home. So we ask – would you feel comfortable in any of these five houses?

The Orb (above) – read the full specs at If It’s Hip, It’s Here, or on the official website here.

Again with the shipping containers – this time it’s the turn of Port-a-Bach (above), from Atelier Workshop Products.

Coming in a variety of sizes – and somehow packing in two floors  – is the Eco Pod (above), from Eco Hab UK.

More your thing? The Method Cabin (above) – spotted via Haute*Nature. Much more conventional-looking, this home is factory-built before taking about 3 months to be assembled onsite.

No glue?  No nails? It’s Lego for adults – the Loq-Kit home (above), made from modules that snap together any which way you like.

Or how about any of the 7 eco-houses we recently featured?
