cmarchuska Diane Dress Giveaway

diane

At EcoSalon, we love versatile clothing as much as our giveaways (and eco-designers!). The Diane dress, by designer cmarchuska, is one of those multi-tasking talents.

Is it a tunic? Is it a dress? One thing we do know is that it’s beautiful.

Draped softly at the neck and shaped just enough to skim your sides, the Diane looks lovely worn alone or with accoutrements.

Hailing from a Wall Street background, designer Christine Marchuska knows what looks good on a woman during and after office hours. Most of her designs move you smoothly from …

Eco-Designers Put Aside Ego

sustainable fashion

I love that designers are creating new road rules.

WWD recently printed a study saying a Mintel survey of 2,500 adults found that 54 percent said they would buy more green products. The report concluded that even in a period of reduced consumer spending, competitively priced green merchandise may do well because it stands out. Still, sustainably-focused designers realize they’re not exempt from the recession. And in an eco-pool so full of talent and expertise, is there really room for everyone to survive?

Fashion Meets Finance?

Nikki Beach, venue for the August 6th Fashion Meets Finance

I can’t tell you how many eco-designers come to me looking for advice about current financial woes – unfortunately, I don’t wield a magic wand. But after coming across this gem, I just might have a solution for them that also yields relationship results. Fashion meets Finance: the recession is over!

It’s just like when I was accepted to Marymount University years ago and we were supposed to date the Westpoint Academy guys (or so the hosting junior informed me that weekend). …

Oregon Gives a Thumbs Up to Hemp Manufacturing

hemp

With Oregon passing a hemp bill (SB 676) Tuesday permitting production and possession of industrial hemp in their state, farmers and eco-designers alike are probably freaking out from all the possibilities at hand.

Bill sponsor, Senator Floyd Prozanski was quoted by Vote Hemp saying “By passing SB 676 with strong bi-partisan support, the Oregon legislature has taken a proactive position to allow its farmers the right to grow industrial hemp, to provide American manufacturers with domestically-grown hemp, and to profit from the effort.”

Until now, only five other states – …

Eco-Designers Embrace Full Figures

I’ve been working in women’s retail for years and because I work with higher-end brands I always get the question, “Why don’t they design for larger women?”

To which I can only shrug my shoulders, uncertain myself.

Thankfully, some sustainable fashion designers are taking the lead and doing it with some great styling as one of the biggest complaints about plus-size clothing is that they always make it frumpy. Maternity moms might be tempted to say the same, but the eco-industry has treated them much better than …

Will the Fashion Industry Ever Achieve Sustainability?

fashion

It’s an uphill battle for many designers to “go green.”

Some walk the talk more than others.

I caught up with three pioneering eco-designers and asked them if the eco-fashion industry is simply lost in a waste-stream of organic textiles or if it is actually possible for the industry to slim down a bit.

Here’s what they had to say:

Photobucket Sandy of EcoSkin:

As this question is so broad it is difficult for me to give a specific answer, but what I can do is hopefully provide …
