A Bento a Day

bento

Besides being impossibly adorable, this painted enamel adaptation of the Asian field worker’s tacked lunch box is the ideal container for a dieter on the go.

I received one as a gift from my boss over a cup of Joe and a lesson on social networking. She said, “Here, take this and have fun with it. Maybe your kids can use it.”

Maybe, not! I’m not about to let them have another cool gift of mine so they can abandon it on the blacktop, allowing the contents to rot over the course of …

Le Really?

lewhiff

By now you’ve probably  heard about Le Whif, the new way of enjoying chocolate without the calories.

Harvard professor David Edwards, lead inventor of Le Whif, says in a company press release: “Over the centuries we’ve been eating smaller and smaller quantities at shorter and shorter intervals. It seemed to us that eating was tending toward breathing, so, with a mix of culinary art and aerosol science, we’ve helped move eating habits to their logical conclusion. We call it whiffing.”

Edwards says that Le Whif is a terrific way to curb …

To Be Nut-Wise

Here’s an easy soup that comes together in a snap. If you have some homemade chicken or vegetable broth in your freezer, all the better. But feel free to use an organic brand of whichever you prefer.

Need to Lose a Few Extra Pounds? Visit a Developing Country and Try the Poverty Diet.

I just came back from an extended vacation to find my clothes hanging off of me in loose folds. No, I didn’t go to a fancy weight loss retreat. My vacation was an all-inclusive of sorts, but instead of a ship’s buffet of delicacies served up 3 times a day, I was studying Spanish, living with a Guatemalan family, and eating my meals with them.

The headline isn’t meant to be offensive. It’s just that this is the first time I haven’t had to make a New Year’s resolution to …

Is Obesity Contagious?

Keeping up with the Joneses may entail more than you think. As our neighbors get a little fatter, we allow ourselves to get a little fatter, too. At least, that’s what the latest research shows. After studying obesity data from the last 6 decades, two British economic experts concluded that obesity is socially contagious simply because of the way people perceive their status in society. As being overweight becomes more common and less of a stigma, people are less likely to care about maintaining a normal …
