The M-velope: Moveable Sustainable Structures for Work and Play

Remember that big cardboard box that served as a playhouse, fort, and place of refuge when you were a kid? Meet the M-velope.
The M-velope is the grown-up version of the cardboard box – it’s more sleek, can be transformed into various configurations, will stand up to all sorts of weather and is built out of Accoya, a sustainable wood. Internationally renown artist Michael Jantzen designed the transformable structure to provide a special place to meditate, though it can also be used to nap, or read or pen a novel.

The shape and interior light quality of the M-velope can be altered by folding the surface into various combinations as each plane is covered with panels that are subdivided in different ways.

Floor area of the M-velope is eight feet square, and the height approximately twelve feet, depending upon how the panels are folded. Benches with fold-up backrests are built into the space and can comfortably seat at least eight people. Size can be increased by joining more M-velopes together. Since the entire structure is prefabricated, it is easily transported and can assembled almost anywhere. A small solar panel can be mounted onto the M-velope for lights or small appliances.
What a great way to keep the child in all of us alive.
