Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic.

As a fresh college graduate in the 90s, I liked nothing better than reminding people that I was an "Independent Woman of 90s", totally free to do whatever I wanted. It was during this period in my life that a friend loaned me his copy of the book Wicked.

I don’t know if I can put into words how much I loved this book. The story is about Elphaba, a.k.a. The Wicked Witch of the West, who is misunderstood, outspoken, passionate and known primarily for her ugly green hue. To me, she was a strong, confident woman whose exterior hid a compassionate, complex human.  In my I Am Woman Hear Me Roar phase, I could totally relate.

I like to imagine that Elphaba would have stormed the skies with her gaggle of monkeys quite possibly on one of these beautiful artisan brooms from Sweep Dreams. This is an example of a simple, inexpensive way to green up your lifestyle. Hand-woven by fair-trade artisans from sustainable sorghum grass and eco-friendly dyes and fitted with a strong steel base, the broom is quite beguiling (I won’t say witchy). Prices range from $20-27 depending on type of broom and size.
